As you all know I started back to work 2 weeks ago and apparently while I was out on maternity leave, my class LOST THEIR MINDS!!! In all fairness to the wee ones, it is Spring time and the troops are always restless this time of year. On top of this, I am sure that me (aka: The Drill
Sargent) being gone for 7 weeks did not help them to maintain their self control whatsoever. Upon my return I found myself reliving the first two weeks of school (this is when you
really have to train them on how to behave like a civilized person) for the second time this year. The only difference this time was I was not as forgiving nor did I play Mrs.
Nicegirl. I know what you are thinking, "
Geesh lady, you teach
Pre-K why don't you give these kids a break and let them be kids?" My answer to you is this: "If I do not teach these children manners or how to behave in school, they will turn in to the rude and selfish
pre-teens and teens that no adult ever wants to encounter. Trust me, teach it to them early and they will not ever forget it:) In saying all of this, even when I am spending more time than I would like watching 4 and 5 year
olds with their heads down on their tables for a "think about it" I am still able to laugh when they say things like this conversation that took place in my class on my second day back and about the third "think about it" of the day. (The little boy is a transfer in to my class from a different class on campus.)
Boy-"Uh!!! You mean!"
Girl-(Hands on hips)"
Caulin, Mrs. Borg can be
WAAAAAAY meaner than this."
Rest of Class-"Ya, she can be
WAAAAAY meaner."
Me-"Yup, I can be....do you want to find out? (wink)"
Class-"No Ma'am" (Yes, they even said Ma'am, see it does work!)
I could not help but laugh, and of course dismiss them from their "think about it" because I think they all got the point:) I am happy to say that this past week was so much better and I really am happy to be back teaching. Gotta love those
pre-
kinders, they make me laugh daily!
