I know that I have mentioned in my lasts few posts that I am watching Brayden (my nephew) this summer during the week days. For those of you who do not know, he is 3 1/2 years old-going on 21 years. He truly is the smartest little boy I have ever met, really. His ability to remember things from day to day is amazing and sometimes annoying. You know when you tell a child something one day to pacify them for the moment, while hoping that they do not remember it later on? Well, you can forget that kind of mind trick on this kiddo- he remembers EVERYTHING! However, I have learned to use this to both mine and his advantage :) Because is has the memory of an elephant, I can teach him how to do something and he will actually remember it for future use- imagine that, a school teacher that is able to teach a child something and have them retain it......genius! Anyway, it kind of started because Brayden was very curious about Boston and what all the "baby gear" was for around our house. This sparked a "light bulb" moment in my mind and I thought to myself, "I have a perfectly capable 3-almost 4 year old with my all day long that could actually be helping me watch my baby". Child labor? Maybe, but a HUGE help nonetheless :) I have gotten so use to having his help that I am not sure what I am going to do when summer is over! Here is a short story of how helpful Brayden is and how others (and myself) are quite amazed by his maturity:
While signing the papers at the car dealership (yes, I got a new car and I will post more about it later) we had both boys with us. Boston was getting fussy and Brayden was eager to help as usual. In between signatures and speaking to the finance man, I asked Brayden to get Boston's bottle and feed him, please. Big B gets out the bottle from the bag, shakes it up as he has seen Keith and I do, presses the air out of the disposable bottle liner, and begins feeding the baby. Remember, Keith and I both are busy signing, etc and don't bat an eye at Brayden's work. The finance man stops us and questions us about Brayden's age. I respond that he is 3 1/2 and will turn 4 on the last day of September. He looks at me strangely and I cannot figure out why. I peak over at Brayden who has stopped feeding Boston for a second, only to wipe his chin with a burp cloth he has gotten from the bag as well. The finance man, says "My son is almost 5 and I know he would not be able to feed a baby. This kid's a pro, you have really taught him well!" I had to chuckle a little bit to think of Brayden getting everything ready just like an adult would. He really is growing up fast, and has been such a help to me. It makes me sad to think that my B will be as big as him in no time at all! The one good thing I can think of about that is at least I know I will have Boston to help me with baby #2! Here is a pic of helpful Brayden and my little man:
