Darn Teething & Ear Infections....

It finally happened. After 7.5 months of healthy baby syndrome, the inevitable occurred. Boston got sick, poor guy. I know that we have been extremely lucky to have such a healthy baby, and even the pediatrician seemed impressed that this was his first illness. It all started about a 3 weeks ago (seems like MUCH longer!) when he started teething bigtime. He has been chewing and drooling forever, but the past few weeks we could really tell something was happening. He was cranky (which he hardly ever is), he pooped a lot, was a tad warm to touch, runny nose and of course drool city. I read that these were all common signs of teething and KB and I were actually really excited. Keith has been wanting him to eat a steak dinner for a while now, and it is kind of hard to chew steak successfully without an incisors:) Everyday we checked his smile........no teeth. While listening to the cries and moans that these darn suckers cause, we made a huge investment in baby orajel for teething (both the day and nightime formula, talk about lifesavers).

Finally, last weekend he woke up on Sunday and I could feel/see two little teeth poking through his bottom gums. I breathed a sigh of relief, I thought for sure we were over the teething hump, at least until the next set was ready to poke through. Looking back, the teething cries were nothing compared to what was to come later that night. As I bathed and dressed B for bed, I noticed him rubbing his ear but I didn't think much of it until I tried to lay him down to sleep. Typically, I kiss him goodnight and lay him in his crib and that is it. This particular night he was not having it. He screamed, and screamed, and screamed, and screamed some more. Nothing could soothe him. I kept thinking that it may still be his teeth, but I decided to call the Doc just in case. The nurse said to come in first thing in the a.m. to make sure it wasn't his ears and I agreed. It took forever, but finally he was able to fall asleep.....in our bed (something that we have never let him do, but hey he was sick).

I had planned to take off work the following morning to take him to the Doctor just to make sure that it wasn't an ear infection. When he woke up the next morning his normal chipper self, I almost canceled the appointment. I am so glad that I decided against that notion. Even though I felt like a big dummy because as we sat in the waiting room of the Doc's office, I looked around he saw all of these pitiful looking sick babies and then I looked at Boston and he was screaming and laughing at these older children playing. I played out in my mind the conversation I was about to have with the Doc to myself, "My gosh you paranoid mother, your baby is simply teething and that is it. He looks fine!" He did look fine, but his ear told a different story. To quote the Doc, he had a "Red bulging ear drum"....yikes! That sounded painful, and according to B's screams the night before it was. He gave us antibiotics and some heavenly numbing drops for his ear which were great. Luckily he was back to his old self a couple days later. I am glad to have his first illness over and done with, and I hope that there will not be many more.

P.S. while at the doctor, he weighed in at a whopping 19 lbs!! Big boy!

B's 1st Day of School

Even though Boston doesn't technically go to "school" yet, here is a pic that I took of him on his first day at the sitter's house. He really loves it over there and I am so happy that we have someone that we/he love so much. I can't remember if I posted this or not, but B is the youngest baby that Ms. Cindy watches. He is also the ONLY boy! He spends his days with 4 little girls that spoil and love on him all day long. He has really turned in to quite the flirt. Whenever we arrive in the mornings and enter the house, the girls all see him and say "Hi-ah Boston!" He spits out his pacifier so quick to giggle and bat his eyes at the girls. He sure is a ladies man:)

Randomness & the Internet

Okay, I just wanted to post this because I find it so random. Today I check the mail and we have been invited to a wedding. Actually Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Borg, have been invited to a wedding. I open the invite thinking that maybe it was someone that we may know through a relative (?) or something. I figured that the host didn't know us because they would hopefully know that Keith's name is not Kenneth, but maybe....Anyway, I asked Keith if he recognized the names of ANYONE on the invite-bride, groom, parents, etc. he did not know any of them. He then began to speculate that it was someone that knew Kenneth Borg (whomever he may be) amd probably conducted an internet search and found us instead. This got me curious as to how many Kenneth, Keith, whatever Borg's there were out there. Well, guess what people...........there are A LOT! Which brings me to ask the question, if these people really were just taking a guess at their guest list, why did they choose us? Hmmmmm.....all that wasted stationary and postage:) How funny would it be for us to show up at the wedding?! I guess that borderlines funny/creepy, but it is a pretty fine line. Hahaha! Well, I hope that Melissa and David have a very happy matrimony and I am sorry that Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Borg will not get their invite:) Random.

School is now in session...oh boy is it

Okay, Hannah totally lit a fire under me tonight to get back to blogging and I have to say that it feels good to be channeling all of my emotion/stress/procrastination to do stuff for school/basic thoughts/blah blah blah- in to this post:) Thanks again Hannah Mize for getting me started!

Well, I guess my title says it all and school has definately started back in full swing. Let me start by saying "God bless working Moms!!" Especially now that I am one myself....geesh this is tough work people. I am not at all downplaying working Dads by any means (and my hubby is a stinkin' rock star Dad) but let's be honest-being a Mommy is one tough job. Getting up and getting B to the sitter generally runs quite smoothly. KB gets up in the morning and feeds the little man breakfast and dresses him while I am getting ready. We make it to the sitter with plenty of time for me to get to school and get my classroom ready. The real work comes AFTER school when Keith is at work and I am getting Boston fed, bathed, bottled, burped, and tucked in (finger's crossed) for the night. Actually, I am extremely lucky to have a baby that sleeps 10+ hours a night, woo hoo! After he is in bed, I wash dishes, make lunches, and get everything ready for the next day. Believe me, I am not trying to act like I am a super mom, I know that I am not (I only have one kiddo, and I salute all of you that have 2 or more). However, once all of the household things are done I get to work on school stuff.....and this year there is lots of it. If the average person could see how much PAPERWORK teachers have to do, you would be shocked. I really think you would. I went in to this profession because I love children and I love to teach. I did NOT go in to this profession because I love to complete mountains of paperwork! I promise this is the only rant that will be in this post, keep reading:) In other news, my class this year is a group of wee ones unlike any I have ever taught. I have some real characters, and they are constantly saying such funny things that I could never in a million years make up such dialogue. I will post some of their famous quotes in posts to come. Luckily, this week they added an additional Pre-Kinder class to our team. The first week of school each class had 20+ students! If you have ever set foot in a PK classroom, you know that 20 four year olds in room, is not a pretty sight. I now have 14 students in my class- and while it is SOOO much better, it is still mad chaos, no joke. I think that it is just a typical beginning of the year for PK........I hope. I can never really remember the beginning of the year, which I guess is a good thing and gives me hope that all of this madness will soon be a faint memory:) I took some pics of Boston on the 1st Day of School and of my classroom. As soon as I remember to bring my camera home from school I will post them.

Here are a couple things that happened today in my class: One little boy peed on another during a restroom break (boys are so gross!); one guy stuck a rock up his nose (again, a boy); and finally I overheard the queen bee of the room directing a group of kiddos during center time say "you have do to what I say because I am Mrs. Borg and I am a boss, and you are not"! Ha! I wish I could say that I had no idea where she heard that! Hehehehe.....gotta love those kiddos!
