Let me give some background information for those of you who may not know me so well: Birthdays are a BIG deal to me, I know it wasn't obvious enough that I am blogging about my OWN birthday or anything (wink, wink). Anyway, my parents have always made a big deal about my birthday and in turn I make a big deal about my birthday and Keith's birthday and now Boston's birthday and my students' birthdays as well. In fact, I have a little something I like to call my birthday "season". Yes folks, I said it- an entire season of moi. Because my birthday is on the 13th of the month, I enjoy celebrating for the twelve days leading up to my birthday (do I set my expectations high or what?!) Luckily, my husband thinks I am worth this (think I can see him rolling his eyes as he reads this!)Knowing all of this, the quote at the beginning of this post should come as no surprise now should it!? Actually, I said that in a conversation to Keith the day before my birthday as I was "planning" my own birthday party at school. Every year I make a super BIG deal about my students' birthdays. We "celebrate" that child all day long and have a party at the end of the day complete with ice cream, cupcakes, donuts, whatever. Then, I give each student a brand new book and reading buddy (stuffed animal) to take home as their own as a gift from their friends in the class. You would think that they were given a piece of gold! They love it! Because I make such a big deal about birthdays, I enjoy inviting them to celebrate with me on my birthday every year. I usually will bring a special snack for the morning and a treat for the afternoon too. They get a kick out of how old I am, etc and sometimes they even bring me gifts! This year was no exception, and I always wish I could hear the conversations that they have at home when they are telling their parents that Mrs. Borg said tomorrow is her birthday and don't forget to bring her a card and a present! Ha!
Anyway, this year Keith was giving me a hard time about throwing the classroom party for myself and was even acting reluctant to bring pizza up to school for me that afternoon (the nerve!) Hehehe...little did I know that he would spend the day slaving in the kitchen preparing a fabulous meal for myself and my friends and family as a surprise dinner for my 28th birthday! What a guy, I know! All along I thought that he had to work Friday night and he had requested off to plan this special night just for me:) I was completely surprised to walk out of my bedroom and see everyone standing in the dining room! WOW! It also felt great for everyone to tell me what a fab guy I have and how much effort he put in to the entire night. So sweet! I got to spend time with some of my besties that I never see anymore, and it was an all around perfect evening to a great birthday season! Thanks honey, I love you- and go ahead and plan on doing something equally spectacular next year too ;)
